Dear Elijah: A Book Review

Dear Elijah: A Book Review of the Until Trilogy by Jonah Mae Pacala

The book Until Trilogy is composed of the following books: Until He Was Gone, Until He Returned and Until Forever. The said book was self-published by the author, jonaxx, who is Jonah Mae Pacala in real life. The book was published on the year 2016 but before it became a real book, it was published on Wattpad, a free online storytelling community in which authors can post their works through the website or the mobile application. The book became a hit with 140.9 million reads with the combined reads of the three books.

This review would be about the story of the cousins Elijah Riley V. Montefalco and Klare Desteen Montefalco. The purpose of the book is to tell all the readers that love will have its perfect timing. At first, we all concluded that what Elijah and Klare had was wrong, since it was clearly emphasized in the story that it was incest, a relationship with an immediate family member which is considered a taboo. Everyone was against it, including their family members since they were raised as cousin. They were separated because Elijah was sent to US, which became the opportunity for him to meet Selena. After how many years, Elijah went back to the Philippines with Selena. It was hard for both Elijah and Klare to see each other after all the pain they caused each other. A shocking revelation was spilled to their family, Klare isn’t a real Montefalco, she is a Ty. She is the lost daughter of Richard Ty, the father of her colleagues Hendrix Richard Ty and Pierre Angelo Ty. In the end, the both fought for each other and had a beautiful ending. The author did a great job in adhering to its purpose.

The book is intended for all the people who think that love is something that should be worth fighting for. According to Elijah “Love is war. I am you soldier”. He would be willing to risk everything for love, for Klare. The circumstances tested both of them in a way similar to a gold being tested in fire. The challenges made their relationship stronger and perfect on timing. The first time they were in a relationship didn’t work for them because it wasn’t the right time. Things done in a wrong time, even if it felt right, is still wrong.

Overall, the book was superb. It kept the readers wondering about what would happen next. The components were all there. The concise usage of language, the mechanics was also present. The writing skills of the author was very evident in his piece. The book presented no errors on technicalities, it was thoroughly checked and proofread by the author herself.  The author also used some difficult words which gave one’s vocabulary a chance to be maximized. The book was something easy to understand and something that would leave a mark in one’s heart.

To sum it all up, the author clearly presented the story in a way that the readers quickly grasped what is the message that she wanted to portray. The language usage was also on point. It adheres to coherence and cohesion. The ideas are presented in a logical manner and they have a connection to each other. The book is a superb one so I highly recommend this to all book enthusiast out there.
